Cheniere Energy (LNG) Q3 2026 Earnings: Stage 3 Complete, Guidance Raised Again

Summary
Cheniere exported a record 684 TBtu in Q3 2026, up 17%, raised 2026 Adjusted EBITDA guidance to $8.75-9.25 billion and has already sold about 4 Mt of 2027 spot LNG.
Cheniere Energy (LNG) Q3 2026 earnings showed stronger exports, higher profit and faster expansion progress than the company had planned. Cheniere reported results for the third quarter of 2026 (July-September) on October 29, 2026, in its 8-K earnings release, its 10-Q and its earnings call [1][2][3]. Four earlier questions were all answered positively this quarter: export volume after the new trains started, whether high marketing margins can last, whether net income still swings with contract mark-to-market, and whether the first phase of the Sabine Pass expansion can reach a final investment decision (FID). Taken together, a meaningful share of the high margins created by the disrupted Strait of Hormuz now extends into 2027, and the next step in growth depends on whether the expansion reaches FID around year-end.
Cheniere is the largest US exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG). It liquefies US natural gas at two Gulf Coast terminals and ships it abroad. About 90% of output is sold under long-term contracts in which buyers pay a fixed fee plus 115% of the Henry Hub gas price; its marketing arm sells the rest at international prices.
All Stage 3 trains are running and exports rose 17%
Third-quarter exports set a quarterly record. Cheniere exported 684 trillion British thermal units (TBtu) in 188 cargoes, up 17% from 586 TBtu a year earlier [1]. The last train of the Corpus Christi Stage 3 project reached substantial completion in August, ahead of the guaranteed schedule and within budget [1]. Management attributed the growth to the early start-up of the new train and better reliability, but it did not disclose reliability data [3].
Higher volume has already reached revenue and the production outlook. LNG revenue from the liquefaction projects was $5.903 billion, up about 44% year over year, faster than volume growth; the gap mainly reflects higher gas prices [2]. Cheniere kept its 2026 production guidance at 53-54 million tonnes and gave its first 2027 forecast of 56-58 million tonnes, of which about 52 million tonnes are sold under long-term contracts [3].
Guidance raised a third time, with most 2027 spot volume already sold
Third-quarter Adjusted EBITDA was $1.900 billion, up 18% year over year [1]. Cheniere raised full-year 2026 Adjusted EBITDA guidance from $7.9-8.4 billion to $8.75-9.25 billion and distributable cash flow guidance from $5.3-5.8 billion to $6.05-6.55 billion, which implies fourth-quarter EBITDA of about $2.71-3.21 billion [1]. Management said about $250 million of the increase comes from roughly three cargoes moving from January 2027 into December 2026, which will reduce 2027 profit by a matching amount [3].
A substantial part of the high 2027 margin is already locked in. The company said that of about 5 million tonnes of 2027 spot volume, about 4 million tonnes have been sold at a margin of roughly $10 per MMBtu, leaving about 1 million tonnes unsold; each $1 change in margin moves EBITDA by about $50 million [3]. The $10 figure is a verbal approximation, and formal 2027 guidance is due in February 2027 [3].
New contracts cover the Sabine Pass expansion, leaving regulatory approval
New long-term contracts now exceed what the first phase of the Sabine Pass expansion needs. In October Cheniere signed contracts with QatarEnergy for up to 4 million tonnes per year, with 1 million tonnes conditional on the phase-one FID, and in September it signed a 22-year contract with Petrobras for 0.8 million tonnes per year [1]. Management said the two contracts carry about $15 billion of fixed fees, but prices were not disclosed [3].
Financing and permitting are moving together. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) issued the expansion's final environmental impact statement in September; the company anticipates approval around year-end followed quickly by FID, and a $3.25 billion term loan commitment covers about half of phase-one cost [3]. The FERC construction order and the non-free-trade-country export authorization are still pending [2]. In the third quarter the quarterly dividend rose 12.6% to $0.625 and buybacks totaled $731 million [1][2].
Net income swings narrowed after the accounting change
GAAP net income moved back close to the operating measure. In June the company began recognizing about 73% of its long-term gas purchase contracts on delivery [2]. Third-quarter net income attributable to Cheniere was $1.170 billion, only $420 million above Adjusted Net Income of $750 million [1]; the gap was about $4.5 billion in the first quarter and about $2.4 billion in the second [4][5]. The remaining mark-to-market swings mainly come from the marketing arm's hedge positions, and this effect has been tested for only one quarter [2].
Conclusion
The quarter showed growth, profit conversion and cash generation improving together. The completed trains lift the company's 2027 production forecast to 56-58 million tonnes, and a substantial part of the wide spreads is locked into 2027, though about $250 million is a shift between years. Third-quarter distributable cash flow of about $1.23 billion funded buybacks, the dividend increase and the equity share of expansion spending [1]. Whether fourth-quarter EBITDA lands in the implied range and whether the expansion reaches FID on schedule will decide whether this view keeps strengthening.
