Summary

Howmet Aerospace Q3 2026 revenue rose 29% to $2.703 billion, above guidance, as the Engine Products margin climbed to 39.1% despite about 520 new hires.

Howmet Aerospace (HWM) reported third-quarter 2026 earnings on October 29, 2026, through an 8-K press release and an earnings call, with revenue, adjusted EBITDA and earnings per share all above the high end of the company's prior guidance [1][2]. Q3 revenue (quarter ended September 30) was $2.703 billion, up 29% year over year and up 25% organically; adjusted EBITDA was $879 million, a 32.5% margin [1].

Before this report, three questions mattered most: whether the Engine Products segment could hold its margin while hiring heavily, whether gas turbine blade revenue could keep growing under capacity constraints without free cash flow falling behind, and whether Fastening Systems could hold its margin after absorbing the CAM acquisition. This quarter brought a clear confirmation for Engine Products, continued strength in gas turbines and further margin dilution in fasteners. Taken together, the company grew faster, converted more of that growth into profit, and kept expansion spending from weighing on cash flow.

Howmet makes superalloy blades and seamless rolled rings for jet engines and gas turbines, aerospace fasteners, structural parts and forged aluminum truck wheels; aerospace was about 70% of 2025 revenue [4]. Its main customers are engine, airframe and gas turbine makers, and RTX and GE Aerospace each accounted for about 11% of third-party sales in 2025 [5].

Engine Products margin rose to 39.1% while headcount kept growing

Howmet's Engine Products segment raised its margin in Q3 while it continued to add workers. Segment third-party sales were $1.451 billion, up from $1.373 billion in Q2 and up 33% year over year, all of it organic; segment adjusted EBITDA was $567 million, and the margin rose from 37.7% in Q2 to 39.1% [1]. The confirmation bar set before the quarter required sales of at least $1.40 billion, a margin of at least 37.7% and company adjusted EBITDA above $835 million, and all three were met.

Demand came from both new engines and spare parts. Commercial aerospace revenue in the segment was $824 million, up from $770 million in Q2 [6]. Management said shorter time on wing for new-generation narrowbody engines, a backlog of engines waiting for shop visits and an ongoing aircraft underbuild are lifting spares demand; company-wide spares revenue was about $570 million, up 30%, or about 21% of quarterly revenue [3]. That share is a single-quarter figure and cannot be compared directly with the 22% first-half share cited for Q2.

Hiring did not outrun operating leverage. The segment absorbed approximately 520 net new employees in the quarter [1]. On a sequential basis, segment sales rose $78 million and EBITDA rose $50 million, an incremental margin of about 64%. The company said product price increases exceeded material and inflationary cost pass-through [6], but it did not split the contribution of price, mix and volume, and it does not disclose labor costs.

The improvement carried through to company results. Engine Products produced about 62% of the four segments' combined EBITDA, and company adjusted EBITDA came in about $49 million above the guidance midpoint [1][2]. Howmet raised full-year adjusted EBITDA guidance by $100 million to about $3.33 billion, guided Q4 adjusted EBITDA to $895 million to $905 million, and gave an initial 2027 revenue outlook of about $11.5 billion, up about 12% [1].

Gas turbines kept strengthening while CAM still diluted fastener margins

Gas turbine revenue growth accelerated, and expansion spending came in slightly below the confirmation bar. Gas turbines revenue in Engine Products was $348 million, up 44% year over year and up from $321 million in Q2 [6]. Management pulled the timeline for doubling gas turbine revenue forward to within three years and said revenue could reach about $2.5 billion within five years; this is a spoken goal, not formal guidance [3]. Current deferred revenue, which reflects customer prepayments, rose from $119 million to $204 million [6]. Capital expenditures reached a quarterly record of $147 million, and free cash flow was still $562 million [1]. Capex was $4 million short of the confirmation bar, so this part of the story remains under review.

Fastening Systems revenue grew, but its margin declined again. Segment revenue was $630 million, including $135 million from acquisitions, with organic growth of 10%; the margin was 29.4%, down 70 basis points from Q2 [1]. Management attributed the decline to the larger share of revenue from CAM and did not update synergy progress on the call [3].

Conclusion

This report strengthens the case that Howmet is growing faster and converting more of that growth into profit. The Engine Products margin has risen for three straight quarters, from 36.6% to 39.1% [1], with commercial aerospace and gas turbines driving growth together, and higher expansion capex was covered by operating cash flow and customer prepayments. The main uncertainties are that the contributions of pricing and labor costs are not broken out, the medium-term gas turbine goal is still a spoken target, and there is no evidence yet of CAM synergies. The next tests are whether the Engine Products margin holds above 37.7% in Q4, whether gas turbine revenue keeps growing sequentially, and whether fastener margins stop falling.
