Summary

Raymond James' fiscal Q4 2026 investment banking revenue rose 17% to $370 million and Capital Markets pre-tax margin hit about 19%, while fees and interest revenue are guided up only about 1%.

Raymond James Financial (RJF) fiscal Q4 2026 earnings, reported on October 28, 2026 in an 8-K earnings release and on the earnings call for the July-September 2026 quarter, showed the investment banking pipeline finally closing deals, and those deals lifted firmwide profit at a high margin [1][2]. Going into the quarter, three questions mattered: whether asset management fees would grow as guided, whether interest-related revenue would hold, and whether the long-discussed banking pipeline would convert [3]. Asset management fees rose 11% sequentially, in line with guidance; combined interest-related revenue came in slightly above flat guidance; and investment banking revenue rose 17% year over year [1]. Overall, results beat the earlier baselines, but the fourth quarter is a seasonally strong banking quarter and the company guided next-quarter fee growth to only about 1%, so fiscal 2027 profit growth depends more on banking momentum, net new assets and expense control [2].

Raymond James Financial is a US diversified financial services company built around wealth management, with $1.94 trillion of client assets at the end of September 2026 [1]. Its financial advisors serve individual clients; the company earns asset management fees on fee-based account assets, earns spread income by placing client cash at its own bank or third-party banks, and runs an investment bank focused mainly on the middle market [4].

Progress one: banking deals closed and Capital Markets margin rose to about 19%

Fiscal fourth-quarter investment banking revenue clearly exceeded the prior-year quarter, led by M&A advisory. Consolidated investment banking revenue was $370 million, up 17% year over year from $316 million [1]. Capital Markets M&A and advisory revenue was $218 million, up 34% year over year [1]. Management said most of its M&A business is driven by financial sponsors such as private equity firms, and many portfolio companies bought in the early 2020s are now past their intended holding periods and moving toward exits [2].

The added revenue converted into profit at a high margin. Capital Markets pre-tax income was $106 million, up from $90 million a year earlier and $48 million in the third quarter, a margin of about 19% that exceeds management's 15% target [1][3]. Segment compensation rose only from $300 million to $310 million, and the firmwide adjusted compensation ratio fell to 64.6%, below the company's target of about 65% [1][5]. Management also attributed the lower compensation ratio to Capital Markets performance [2].

Three caveats apply to this quarter's reading. Affordable housing investments revenue of $63 million was at its seasonal fourth-quarter high, about $28 million above the third quarter, and is unrelated to banking deal closings [1]. Fixed income brokerage revenue fell 28% year over year; management attributed the decline to mark-to-market losses on municipal trading inventory as rates rose and called it temporary [2]. Acquisitions such as GreensLedge raised the year-over-year base, and the company did not disclose their separate contribution.

This confirmation covers a single quarter. Management said the fourth quarter has historically been among its strongest banking quarters and, asked whether the recovery would last, said only that it hopes so [2]. In the prior-year fiscal first quarter, investment banking revenue was $208 million and Capital Markets pre-tax income was only $9 million [6].

Progress two: fees and interest revenue landed as guided, with slower growth ahead

Asset management fee growth followed the billing mechanism. Consolidated asset management and related administrative fees were $2.307 billion, up 11% sequentially and in line with company guidance [1][3]. Private Client Group pre-tax income was $458 million, up 10% year over year and slower than 15% revenue growth, while recruiting and retention-related compensation rose 28% [1]. Fee-based assets at the end of September were only 1% above the end of June, and management therefore guided next-quarter asset management fees to rise about 1% sequentially [1][2].

Interest-related revenue slightly beat guidance, but the bank net interest margin kept falling. Net interest income plus RJBDP fees from third-party banks totaled $674 million, against earlier company guidance for roughly flat results versus the third quarter's $658 million [1][3]. The Bank segment net interest margin fell 11 basis points sequentially to 2.60%, which management attributed to a full quarter of costs on higher-yield savings deposits [2]. Management guided the combined figure up about 1% next quarter and explained that, after the September rate increase, deposits repriced before assets [2].

Conclusion

The quarter strengthens the view of Raymond James' ability to turn revenue into profit. Profit leverage from the banking recovery offset recruiting-cost pressure in the Private Client Group, and the firmwide adjusted pre-tax margin reached 21.3%, above the target of about 20% [1][2]. The growth engine is shifting: next-quarter guidance for both main revenue lines is only about 1%, and the company guided fiscal 2027 non-compensation expenses to about $2.5 billion, up about 8% [2]. On capital, the Tier 1 leverage ratio was 12.1%, and management plans to resume buybacks at $400 million per quarter [1][2]. If next-quarter investment banking revenue is clearly above the prior-year quarter, the recovery is extending into the slower season; if it falls back to last year's level, this quarter's margin improvement came mainly from seasonality.
