Deutsche Bank (DB) Q3 2026 Earnings: Corporate Bank Interest Income Returns to Growth

Summary
Deutsche Bank's Corporate Bank posted record Q3 2026 revenue and 10% net interest income growth, but faster CRE exits push full-year provisions above 2025.
Deutsche Bank (DB) Q3 2026 earnings show Corporate Bank net interest income returning to double-digit growth. The bank reported third-quarter results on October 28, 2026, through a 6-K quarterly report and an earnings call: operating revenues kept growing, while credit loss provisions came in above the earlier expectation [1][2]. Of the four questions that framed the quarter, deposit interest income has recovered, client inflows have turned into fee income, the Investment Bank broadly held its prior-year level, and the earlier view that full-year provisions would be lower than in 2025 no longer holds [1][3]. Management raised full-year revenue guidance to above €33 billion; the cost is higher provisions taken to accelerate the exit of non-performing commercial real estate (CRE) loans [1].
Deutsche Bank is Germany's largest bank and reports four business divisions: the Corporate Bank, the Investment Bank, the Private Bank and Asset Management [4]. It earns money mainly from the spread on reinvested deposits, lending, trading and underwriting and advisory, and management fees charged on client assets [4].
Corporate Bank net interest income returns to double-digit growth
The Corporate Bank posted record quarterly revenues. Revenues were €1,978 million, up 9% year on year, after only 1% growth in the second quarter; net interest income was €1,213 million, up 10%, after being broadly flat in the second quarter [1][5].
Business volumes drove most of the growth. Corporate Bank deposits reached €346 billion, up 13% year on year, and loans grew 8%; management attributed deposit interest income growth to deposit volumes and the hedge portfolio, which reinvests deposits on a rolling roughly 10-year profile [2]. Private Bank net interest income grew 9%, and net interest income in the key banking book segments was €3,701 million, up 10%. The company kept its guidance that full-year net interest income will slightly exceed about €14 billion [1][2]. Management said benefits from hedge resets become more pronounced in 2027, but the incremental amount was not disclosed [2].
Reported group profit was distorted by the accounting basis. The 6-K is prepared under IFRS as issued by the IASB, under which the bank's deposit interest rate hedges cannot use hedge accounting; the quarter therefore absorbed about €2.8 billion of fair value losses on these hedges, and the group reported a pre-tax loss of €405 million [1]. The company's targets and regulatory capital use IFRS as endorsed by the EU, on which profit before tax was €2.6 billion, up 8% [1][2]. The gap comes from the accounting rules and does not reflect a deterioration in divisional operations.
Record inflows turn into fee income
The Private Bank and Asset Management both recorded record net inflows in the third quarter. Private Bank net inflows were €17 billion, about two-thirds from Wealth Management; Asset Management net inflows were €31 billion, mainly into passive and cash products [1][2].
The inflows already show up in fee income. Wealth Management revenues rose 10%, Private Bank net commission and fee income rose 13%, and Asset Management management fees were €745 million, up 14% [1]. The Private Bank cost/income ratio fell to 65.2%, a figure that includes unquantified favorable one-off items; management expects Private Bank costs to rise sequentially in the fourth quarter [1][2].
Full-year provisions will exceed 2025
Third-quarter credit loss provisions were higher than in the second quarter. Provisions were €501 million, compared with €460 million in the second quarter; the company attributed the increase to accelerated sales of non-performing CRE loans and an idiosyncratic event in the Corporate Bank in Asia [1][6].
The company changed its full-year provision guidance. It had expected 2026 provisions to be lower than the €1,707 million recorded in 2025; it now expects second-half provisions to be similar to the first half's €979 million, and only underlying provisions, excluding these items, to be slightly lower than in 2025 [1][3][6]. On that basis, reported full-year provisions would be about €1.96 billion. The chief financial officer said a loss of about €100 million can take about €1 billion of CRE off the books, and expects the 2027 reported provision number to be lower [2].
Asset quality shows no broad deterioration so far. Stage 3 exposure in the stress-tested CRE portfolio fell from €4,106 million at the end of June to €4,049 million, but the loan-to-value ratio on U.S. office loans rose from 88% at the end of 2025 to 100% [1][7].
Investment Bank holds flat on financing strength
Investment Bank third-quarter revenues were €2,918 million, down 2% year on year, broadly holding the prior-year level [1]. FIC Markets revenues fell 11%, which the company attributed to a very strong Credit Trading quarter a year earlier, while FIC Financing grew 10%; underwriting and advisory (IBCM) revenues rose only 1% [1]. Management said IBCM revenues will be stronger in the second half than in the first, which requires the fourth quarter to exceed the third [2].
Conclusion
The quarter shows a broader base of growth: third-quarter revenue growth came from the Corporate Bank, the Private Bank and Asset Management [1]. Costs were flat year on year and all four divisions grew profit before tax, but higher provisions weigh on 2026 profit [1]. The CET1 capital ratio was 14.0% at the end of the quarter, the bank has bought back €1.5 billion of shares this year, and capital distribution remains bound by the 60% payout ratio [1].
Hedge-reset benefits, lower 2027 provisions and demand from German pension reform remain expectations [2]. The next tests are whether the Corporate Bank sustains its record level in the fourth quarter, whether IBCM delivers, and whether provisions land within the company's guidance; the revenue guidance also assumes that markets remain constructive [1].
