Summary

BlackLine says Verity Prepare cut reconciliation preparation time by up to 94% as adoption and direct payments grew, though product revenue remains undisclosed.

BlackLine, Inc. (BL) said on its August 4, 2026, second-quarter earnings call that its AI reconciliation agent, Verity Prepare, reduced reconciliation preparation time by up to 94% and had begun prompting customers to pay for it directly. The company has not separately disclosed the product's revenue contribution.[1]

BlackLine provides financial close and accounting automation software to corporate finance departments, earning revenue mainly through platform and product subscriptions. Verity Prepare is an AI agent within its core reconciliation business. It reads reconciliation files, identifies items that need adjustment and assembles an audit-ready package for accountants to review and sign off, shifting their work from repetitive preparation to review and judgment.

From an unnamed agent to early commercialization

The application first appeared in BlackLine's disclosures on November 7, 2025, as an unnamed reconciliation agent. At that point, the company said only that the agent could deliver higher levels of automation within a trusted and auditable process.[4]

In February 2026, the product entered early access for platform customers under the Verity Prepare name. Several large enterprises had begun using it, with accountants moving from preparers to reviewers.[3] The May disclosure added evidence of enterprise deployment and quantified efficiency. By August 4, 2026, BlackLine was describing broader adoption, direct customer payments and a connection to platform annual contract value, moving the application from early trials to general availability and initial commercialization.[1][2]

Preparation time fell from three hours to 10 minutes

The quantified results show the potential efficiency available in reconciliation preparation. In May, BlackLine said one customer had needed three hours to execute certain reconciliations and had reduced that work to 10 minutes, which management described as 95% time savings.[2]

In August, the company said preparation time had fallen by up to 94%. The phrase "up to" describes the highest observed result. BlackLine did not disclose the sample, baseline or distribution of outcomes, so the figure should not be treated as typical for every customer.[1]

Adoption growth creates an early revenue signal

Expanding adoption has begun to produce signs of commercialization. In August, BlackLine said the customer count had grown nearly fourfold quarter over quarter. Revenue was not yet material but was growing well, and an increasing number of customers had begun buying Verity Prepare separately.[1]

If the faster preparation process can be repeated across more customers and workloads, it could improve product conversion and contract value. However, BlackLine did not provide the absolute customer base, and an efficiency gain alone does not establish a change in revenue, costs, profit or staffing.

The financial link is platform annual contract value, or ACV, and ultimately recognized revenue. Management said Verity Prepare was a key lever in more than 20 million of platform ACV, suggesting that adoption may support contract value. The company did not disclose the currency or break out the product's individual ACV contribution.[1] The entire amount of platform contract value cannot be attributed to Verity Prepare, nor can it be treated as recognized product revenue.

Verity Prepare has progressed from a reconciliation automation experiment to a product used by large enterprises, with significant early efficiency results and the start of direct payments. There is directional evidence of its role in BlackLine's commercialization, but the company has yet to quantify typical customer outcomes, standalone ACV, recognized revenue or margin contribution.
