MoneyHero Q2 2026: Cost Gains Meet a Shrinking Funnel

Summary
MoneyHero's approval rate rose to 48% and costs improved, but applications, approvals and reported revenue fell, leaving the revenue recovery unproven.
MoneyHero reported fiscal Q2 2026 results on September 11, 2026, for the quarter ended June 30 and held an earnings call without a Q&A session. The results weakened the case for a revenue recovery while strengthening the evidence that profit conversion is improving. The prior questions were whether a higher approval rate could support revenue despite a smaller application funnel, whether wealth and insurance mix and total costs could lift profit, and whether narrower losses could turn into cash. Approval quality improved again, but volumes and reported revenue remained under pressure; gross margin improved year over year, adjusted losses narrowed for a second consecutive quarter, and cash was stable without an operating cash flow disclosure.[1]
MoneyHero operates a personal-finance comparison platform and digital insurance brokerage for consumers in Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan and the Philippines. It connects consumers with banks, insurers and investment brokers and earns mainly from outcomes such as clicks, applications or approved applications, alongside marketing, events and its Creatory business.[1]
A higher approval rate did not offset the smaller funnel
Better application quality did not produce revenue growth in Q2. Applications fell 30% year over year to 310,000, while approved applications declined about 16% to 148,000. The approval rate rose nine percentage points to 48%, matching Q1. Reported revenue fell 13% to $15.752 million after growing about 15% year over year in Q1, a reversal in direction.[1]
Cash rewards explain part of the pressure on reported revenue, but they do not show that transaction activity resumed growing. MoneyHero accounts for cash rewards as a deduction from revenue. Rewards increased 77% year over year to $5.112 million, while transaction value after adding them back was flat at $20.9 million. The company said revenue per approved application continued to increase but did not disclose the absolute figure, so the separate contributions from approval quality, reward format and unit value cannot be measured.[1]
Cost efficiency now has two quarters of support
Profit conversion continued to improve despite lower revenue. Wealth and insurance generated $4.693 million and increased their share of revenue from about 27% to about 30%. Cost of revenue fell from 50.5% to 48.0% of revenue, technology costs halved year over year, and five major cost categories declined 12% in aggregate. The adjusted EBITDA loss narrowed from $1.951 million to $1.627 million; the first-half loss narrowed 49%, extending the year-over-year improvement reported in Q1.[1]
AI-related execution became more concrete, but its standalone financial contribution remains unknown. MoneyHero launched its in-house voucher management system in Hong Kong and said it halved delivery times and eliminated third-party handling fees. Technology-cost reductions also included platform consolidation, so the full decline cannot be attributed to AI. IFRS operating loss was still $2.522 million, compared with operating income of $0.366 million a year earlier, which means sustained profitability has not yet been achieved.[1]
Conclusion
MoneyHero is using a higher conversion rate, product mix and cost control to cushion a smaller traffic funnel, but the cushion has not restored reported revenue. Cash was $28.160 million at June 30, slightly above the March balance, while contract assets fell to $14.863 million. Because the company did not provide a cash flow statement, those balances do not prove that operating cash generation improved. A recovery in applications and approvals, sustained cost ratios and stronger reported cash flow would reinforce the current view; if the cost gains fade as new products are funded, the durability of better profit conversion would weaken.[1]
