Mitsui Mining & Smelting announced on August 17, 2026 that it will increase production of ultra-thin copper foil for AI data centers to 2.4 times the fiscal 2025 level by fiscal 2033, acquiring land near its existing Malaysian site to build a new plant, with investment amount undisclosed.

Gelion PLC announced a funded development and scale-up agreement with Mitsui Kinzoku to validate its Nano-Encapsulated Sulfur cathode technology in liquid and solid-state battery cells, including £2 million in milestone-based funding and an option for Mitsui Kinzoku to negotiate manufacturing and distribution rights in certain Asian territories.
