[WRB] W.R. Berkley Thesis 2026: Soft Market Tests Decentralized Underwriting Edge
W.R. Berkley sustained industry-leading underwriting performance in FY2025 with net premiums written of ~$12.2B and a combined ratio of ~91.5%, as the commercial insurance market transitioned from hard to moderating conditions. Net investment income reached ~$1.2B on a fully re-priced fixed income portfolio, driving net income to ~$1.8B and EPS to ~$4.60. ROE held above 20% for the third consecutive year. The FY2026 thesis test is whether the decentralized operating model maintains combined ratio discipline below 93% as casualty loss cost trends and potential reserve development from 2019-2022 accident years emerge.
