Ecopetrol S.A. (NYSE:EC) is Colombia's largest integrated energy company and one of Latin America's leading oil and gas corporations. Founded in 1948 as Empresa Colombiana de Petróleos, the state-owned enterprise was restructured and renamed Ecopetrol S.A. in 2003, subsequently going public in 2008. The Colombian government maintains majority ownership while public shareholders hold a significant minority stake. Today, Ecopetrol operates as a vertically integrated energy company with operations spanning from upstream oil and gas exploration and production to downstream refining and petrochemicals, complemented by midstream transportation infrastructure and renewable energy initiatives.
