Coincheck Group N.V. (NASDAQ:CNCK) is a Netherlands-based holding company that operates one of Japan's largest cryptocurrency exchanges through its subsidiaries. Founded in 2012 by Koichiro Wada and Yusuke Otsuka, the company initially started as a simple Bitcoin exchange but has evolved into a comprehensive digital asset platform. After experiencing a major security breach in 2018 that resulted in the theft of $530 million worth of cryptocurrency, Coincheck was acquired by Monex Group, a Japanese online securities firm, which helped rebuild the platform's security infrastructure and regulatory compliance. The company went public on NASDAQ in September 2021, marking one of the first major cryptocurrency exchange IPOs on a U.S. stock exchange.
