Originally known as Caterpillar Tractor Co., the company changed its name to Caterpillar Inc. in 1986 and has been publicly traded since 1929. Headquartered in Deerfield, Illinois, Caterpillar has evolved from a tractor manufacturer into the world's leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines, and diesel-electric locomotives. The company operates globally and is celebrating its 100-year anniversary in 2025, with Jim Umpleby stepping down as CEO and Joe Creed taking over leadership.
