Veritone (VERI) iDEMS: AI Video Redaction Contract Over $500,000

Veritone, Inc. (VERI) said on its 2026-08-13 earnings call that its iDEMS public-safety software has moved beyond AI video redaction into case-lead analysis, and that it had signed a multi-year contract with the California Highway Patrol. The suite's own revenue is still not disclosed separately [1].

What iDEMS is

Veritone sells enterprise AI software built on aiWARE, its own platform. Customers hand it audio, video, images and documents; the platform routes that material to different AI models for transcription, search, comparison and tagging, and the company charges by subscription and usage. The version sold to police departments, federal law enforcement agencies and other government bodies is called iDEMS, an intelligent digital evidence management system. Investigators pull body-camera video, call recordings and case files into one system, the software searches and analyzes them, and then masks sensitive details such as faces, license plates and names so the material can be released under public records requests. Inside the suite, Redact does the automated masking, while Investigate and the later-launched Assess look through messy case material for leads, contradictions and gaps. Public sector work is a direction the company returns to repeatedly, and iDEMS is the lead product in that line.

How the AI video redaction application evolved

On 2024-03-12 Veritone packaged Investigate, Redact, Illuminate, Tracker and Identify, which had been sold separately until then, into iDEMS, and began the initial phase of two custom implementations with the U.S. Department of Justice and Department of Defense, aimed at cutting the time and cost of organizing and reviewing video evidence [2]. At that point only the deployments themselves could be verified.

On 2024-08-08 the company attached a dollar amount to a specific deployment for the first time. It had completed the second phase of an AI-based video redaction service for one of the largest police agencies in the country, and then moved into a third phase [3].

By 2025-03-13 iDEMS was being described as a leading system for aggregating, analyzing and sharing investigation materials [4]. Local law enforcement customers had grown to more than a hundred, running investigations, public records requests and redaction on the software, and three further AI applications had qualified for purchase through the Department of Defense's TradeWinds procurement catalog, which is not the same as winning an award.

On 2026-03-26 the software was running in government cloud and in fully air-gapped classified environments.

By 2026-08-13 the newly launched Assess had pushed AI from redaction into case analysis and was already in use on several cases, including the JonBenet Ramsey case in Colorado. Document redaction, launched in the same period, closed several deals, and Redact won a multi-year contract with the California Highway Patrol, the largest state police agency in the United States. CHP is also evaluating other applications in the suite [1].

What the $500,000 figure does and does not measure

The figure of more than $500,000 is the total contract value of AI video redaction services at a single police agency, not revenue recognized in any period. The company gave no payment schedule, no volume of video processed and no gross margin for the deal [3]. It measures what one agency will pay to hand redaction work to software, and it covers that agency's audio and video evidence workflow, not investigative analysis or the other steps in a public records request.

Veritone has not given an application-level contract amount since. It now describes progress with customer counts, deal counts and contract terms instead. Those measures rest on different bases, cannot be added together, and do not show how much business the software does in a year.

What it would take to size the revenue contribution

The software is sold agency by agency, so wider use shows up first as new customers, expansion deals and multi-year contracts, and only then in public sector revenue. On 2026-03-26 the company reported 68% year-over-year growth in its public sector division [5], which points the same way as the iDEMS customer expansion. But that growth rate covers the entire public sector line, which also includes platform subscriptions, professional services and other government projects. Veritone has not broken out the iDEMS portion and has not disclosed the suite's revenue, its gross margin or its share of public sector revenue. Delivery progress still sits between total contract value and recognized revenue, and CHP's evaluation of the other applications in the suite cannot be counted as a purchase.

What can be confirmed today is deployment and commercial progress. Customer counts, application counts and contract lengths are all rising across federal, state and local law enforcement, and the work AI does has widened from masking sensitive information to finding contradictions and gaps in case material. What has not been quantified is how much case-handling time, public records processing speed or redaction accuracy improved. Even the latest period's statements about how widely Assess is used and how many document redaction deals closed are imprecise counts. Sizing what the software contributes to company results requires Veritone to disclose revenue for iDEMS itself, including Redact and Assess, or its share of public sector revenue.
