META Business Agents Go Global on WhatsApp and Messenger

Summary
Meta's business agents are now available globally on WhatsApp and Messenger, with more than 1 million businesses using them weekly, and no disclosed revenue yet.
On July 29, 2026, Meta Platforms, Inc. (META) said on its earnings call that its business agents are now available globally on WhatsApp and Messenger, and that more than 1 million businesses use them every week to talk to customers or complete sales. It did not disclose how much revenue they bring in [1].
What Meta Business Agents are
Meta draws almost all of its revenue from advertising. The family of apps built from Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger is both the ad inventory and the place where businesses and customers deal with each other. Meta Business Agents are AI assistants that live inside those messaging apps: a business hands over its website information, product catalog and social profile for the agent to learn from, and the agent then handles customers on WhatsApp and Messenger, answering product and returns questions, recommending items, handling after-sales issues, taking bookings and orders, and organizing the exchanges into records the business can review. It serves businesses that sell on Meta's messaging apps, sits on the business-messaging line, and is core business rather than a side project.
Nearly three years from early alpha to global availability
On October 25, 2023, business agents were an early alpha with a handful of partners. Management said at the time that in markets with high labor costs it does not pay for a business to hire people to answer customers one message at a time, that letting AI handle the conversation was what could turn business messaging into a business, and that a great deal of work remained before any broad rollout [4]. By October 2025 it had its first usage reading of its own, millions of conversations between people and business AIs since that July, and it moved from selected customers testing it to open availability for all eligible businesses in Mexico and the Philippines, with US businesses also able to put it on their own websites [3]. Usage turned in the first quarter of 2026: more than 10 million conversations a week, with coverage extended to small and mid-sized businesses in Latin America and Indonesia and to Messenger in Asia-Pacific [2]. On July 29, 2026, it became globally available under the name Meta Business Agents, began rolling out on Instagram, and added a custom platform for large customers [1].
The two numbers measure different things
The two figures in this disclosure do not measure the same thing. More than 1 million businesses using it every week to talk to customers or complete sales is a reach reading: it says how many businesses are on it. More than 10 million conversations a week, up from 1 million at the start of the year and so a tenfold increase, is an intensity reading: it says how many conversations customers actually had [2]. Neither figure says how deeply any single business uses the product, and neither says how much money those conversations closed.
The only named customer result comes from the Brazilian car rental company Movida: daily bookings through WhatsApp rose 44% within a month, and returning customers can complete a booking in as few as three messages [1]. That increase belongs to Movida's own WhatsApp channel, and the company gave no comparison base, so it cannot be treated as the typical effect across businesses.
Turning conversations into revenue is a chain Meta has not closed
A business that does not have to staff a chat window is more willing to buy ads that send customers straight into WhatsApp or Messenger, and more willing to close the sale inside the conversation. The faster customers convert, the better those ads perform, and the more a business may be willing to spend and to bid. The end of that chain is business-messaging revenue, meaning click-to-message advertising revenue and paid messaging revenue, both booked within Family of Apps advertising and other revenue. The Movida example shows the first two links working at one real customer [1]. But Meta has still not connected business agents to any revenue or profit figure of its own, and has not said how it charges for them or how many businesses pay. For now that path is a reasonable inference about direction, not a disclosed result.
What is confirmed and what is not
What can be confirmed today is that business agents have gone from a product idea to sales and customer-service workflows actually running inside the messaging apps, and that both the number of businesses using them and the volume of conversations they carry are still rising. What cannot be confirmed is what they are worth to Meta itself. The open question has shifted from whether the product can be built to how it will be priced. Only when Meta first gives a paying-business count, a pricing model, or a specific contribution to business-messaging revenue will it be possible to estimate what this means for results.
