Summary

Axon says its Draft One AI report writer gives police officers 20% more day-to-day capacity and is now live in more countries, but it still does not break out Draft One revenue.

Axon Enterprise (AXON) said on its 2026-08-05 earnings call that Draft One, its AI police report writing tool, is now live in more countries. The company still has not separately disclosed the subscription product's user count, order value or revenue contribution[1].

What Axon sells and where Draft One fits

Axon Enterprise is a US maker of police equipment and law enforcement software. Its products include TASER energy weapons, Axon Body cameras and the Axon Evidence cloud platform, which stores and manages law enforcement video evidence. Its customers are mainly police departments and other public safety agencies at every level of government. Axon sells hardware and also collects annual or monthly cloud software subscription fees, and many customers sign multi-year contracts that bundle devices, software and services.

Draft One is the AI report writing tool Axon sells to police agencies. After an officer handles an incident, the system uploads the audio recorded by the body camera, transcribes it in the cloud and passes the text to an AI model that produces a first draft of the incident report. The officer then reviews it, adds to it, confirms it and submits it. The tool replaces the work of typing reports by hand at a computer before the end of a shift. Because it runs on Axon's own body cameras and cloud platform, Draft One sits inside the company's core business rather than being a side experiment.

From launch to international rollout

Draft One's commercial path can be traced from the 2024-08-06 call. Axon said it launched the product that April and that in the three months after launch Draft One generated over $100 million of pipeline, the fastest of any Axon software product. The finance chief also said that pipeline was not yet contributing revenue in the quarter[2].

On 2024-11-07, management confirmed that Axon received its first orders from early customers in the third quarter, producing some revenue, and made Draft One the core product of the AI Era plan bundle[3]. On 2025-02-25, management gave its first description of the effect on customers[4]. On 2025-05-07, Axon disclosed that 2 of its top 10 domestic deals in the first quarter included Draft One, a sign the product had begun to enter large contracts[5].

By 2026-08-05, the push had shifted from the US to overseas markets. Management said Draft One was live in more countries and that this takes extra work because report formats differ from country to country[1].

The 20% capacity claim and what it measures

The most specific effect management has cited is officer capacity. On the 2025-02-25 call, management said that for a police chief, Draft One means 20% more day-to-day capacity from police officers[4]. That figure describes how much officer time can shift from paperwork back to patrol duty. It measures working hours on the customer side, not Axon's own operating results. The company also has not explained how it calculated the figure, which police departments it covers or what period it uses as a baseline.

On 2025-08-04, management relayed a customer account: after using Draft One for 60 days, officers were spending a full day more each week on the road rather than sitting behind a computer[6]. The statement came from unnamed customers, with no sample size or measurement method, so it can serve only as supporting evidence for the 20% claim. Both statements point to the same thing, that officers spend less time writing reports. Neither shows that any police department cut staff as a result.

How Draft One reaches Axon's revenue

Draft One's financial impact on Axon runs through software subscription revenue. On 2024-11-07, Axon disclosed pricing: Draft One alone costs $65 a month, or $85 a month with the required transcription service, billed per officer using it[3]. The officer hours customers save are the basis for Axon's pricing and for its push to move customers up to the higher-priced AI Era plan.

Once an order is signed, revenue is recognized gradually over the contract term as a subscription. Management said at the time that this recognition pattern meant Draft One had not yet visibly changed quarterly results[3].

Several disclosed figures do not isolate Draft One:

  • The over $100 million pipeline is not the same as signed orders or revenue[2].
  • The appearance of Draft One in top 10 deals came without any contract value[5].
  • On 2026-08-05, Axon said the AI Era plan grew almost 700% year over year, but the plan includes several AI products, so that growth cannot be credited to Draft One alone[1].

What is confirmed and what is not

What can be confirmed is that Draft One has moved from a newly launched report tool to a subscription product priced per officer per month, included in large US contracts and now rolling out overseas. Management has repeatedly used officer hours to explain its value. What remains unquantified is the number of subscribers, the order value and the share of revenue Draft One brings to Axon. Only if the company discloses those figures separately will it be possible to judge how much Draft One contributes to software subscription growth.
