Nishi-Nippon Railroad announced that highway bus ridership fell up to 16% year-on-year on weekends in late July 2026 due to the Kumamoto earthquake, with weekday ridership down 2%.

The Sakurajima-go express bus service between Kagoshima and Fukuoka will resume operations on the morning of August 15, after the Kyushu Expressway fully reopened on August 14 following the Kumamoto earthquake.
